WELCOME TO
ROCHDALE JUDO CLUB

Rochdale Judo Club (RJC) was established in 1950, almost seven decades ago.

Our club teaches Judo to both adults and children students, from 4 to 85 years of age.
We teach both the Traditional Japanese and the Olympic Sport forms of Judo.
We are proud to have a long and successful history. We have coached and turned out many regional, national and international Judo champions.

Our classes are open to beginners and experienced Judo-ka alike.
We teach, train and compete following the syllabus and rules of the British Judo Association. We follow the rules of the International Judo Federation (IJF) for relevant tournaments.

ROCHDALE JUDO CLUB HISTORY

Going back to the beginning… 1950.

Our Judo Club has a long and proud history. Training first began over a garage and in various church halls. We also trained in a room over the old Rochdale Market. Most noteworthy was in the summer of 1977 when we opened the current venue. We now have a purpose built Judo Dojo and training facilities on Trafalgar Street.

These facilities were built with a substantial contribution from the National Lottery and supported by Sport England. As a result we have been able to go on to not only survive but thrive over the intervening years. Even more so we have been able to create more opportunities to train. We now have the added flexibility of choosing when to hold training sessions at a variety of times seven days a week. Our club caters for many types of requirements. We are flexible enough to deal with whatever the demand.

Rochdale Judo Club is a truly “grass-roots” club with strong links to the community. Similarly serving judo players from four years of age and upwards. Club President Maurice Clarke 5th Dan who at 82 years of age still has no problem holding his own with the younger black belts. He can be found training and teaching regularly to this day, passing on his skills and his many years of experience.
